Functional and esthetic rehabilitations

Bruxism is a repetitive muscular activity characterized by a tightening or a grating of teeth and / or by a tension and a push of the mandible. It can occur during the sleep or during the awakening . The causes of bruxism are not determined yet; it can involve multifactorial problem. Most of the studies carried out on the bruxism indicates that it seems to be mainly regulated by the central nervous system. Factors such as genetics, structure of the sleep (micro-awakenings), environment, stress, anxiety and other psychological factors, as well as certain drugs ( ecstasy, alcohol, caffeine, tobacco) and medicine (benzodiazepins, dopaminergic) are in connection with the origin of this bruxism.
The wear or the dental abrasion is a characteristic element of bruxism when it is too much marked. It can be observed essentially on incisors and maxillary canine but can also express itself on premolars and molars.
When the coronary wear is very pronounced and when the patient wishes an esthetic rehabilitation, we envisage a wide range prosthetic realization, but it is also necessary to ensure the sustainability.
Bruxism or a bad mandibular position can also be at the origin of symptoms postural, that is joint or muscular pains which express themselves remotely from the jaw (in temples, neck, shoulders, shoulder blades)
A protection in time ensured by the bearing of a bite guard at the end of treatment is a rule. It is going to protect the prosthetic reconstructions of the destructive effect of the frictions and the tightenings of bruxism, in particular during the sleep. It is a maxillary or mandibulary complete bite guard, smooth and flat, in transparent hard resin.
